Road closures, detours for Elk Grove's July 4 Fireworks Display
To reduce congestion, Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free shuttle service to and from Elk Grove Regional Park
ELK GROVE, Calif. — Motorists planning to attend or travel near Elk Grove Regional Park on Independence Day should expect significant traffic delays and road closures as the city prepares for its annual Elk Grove Salutes the Red, White & Blue celebration.
The City of Elk Grove announced Thursday that temporary traffic controls will be implemented throughout southeast Elk Grove on Saturday, July 4, for the annual event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Elk Grove Regional Park.
Most road closures will begin at 6 p.m. and remain in effect until midnight, although some streets will close earlier or later depending on traffic conditions.
Beginning at 6 p.m., southbound East Stockton Boulevard will be closed at Valley Oak Lane, while northbound East Stockton Boulevard will be closed at Elk Grove-Florin Road. Additional closures beginning at 6 p.m. include southbound West Stockton Boulevard at Laguna Grove, northbound Promenade/West Stockton Boulevard at Kyler Road, and Whitelock Parkway at West Stockton Boulevard.
At 8 p.m., additional closures will take effect, including southbound East Stockton Boulevard at the northbound Highway 99 Elk Grove Boulevard off-ramp, southbound Elk Grove-Florin Road at Elk Grove Boulevard, and northbound Elk Grove-Florin Road at East Stockton Boulevard. Beginning at 9 p.m., northbound East Stockton Boulevard will also close from Grant Line Road.
The city has established several detour routes to direct motorists leaving the event and surrounding neighborhoods. Drivers exiting Elk Grove Regional Park will be routed to specific roadways depending on which park gate they use, while neighborhood traffic east of the park will be directed toward Elk Grove Boulevard via northbound Elk Grove-Florin Road. A traffic map released by the city outlines the detour routes and closures around the park.
To reduce congestion, Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free shuttle service to and from Elk Grove Regional Park on two special routes. Shuttle buses will operate every 15 minutes beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Admission to the celebration is free, while parking at Elk Grove Regional Park costs $15 per vehicle. City officials noted there will be no in-and-out parking privileges after 3 p.m.
Alcohol, personal fireworks and pets, except for service animals, are prohibited at the event. For those who are interested, Her Honor Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen will address the audience.
Residents with questions about the traffic plan can contact Elk Grove Police Sgt. Shane Glaser at 916-639-6744.
