Vang is challenging fellow Democrat and longtime Congresswoman Doris Matsui for California's 7th Congressional District.
The importance of gaining support in Elk Grove is crucial for Vang, given that much of the Elk Grove City Council is indicating support for Matsui. While Democrats have a registration advantage in the city, the area is considered moderate compared to other parts of the newly drawn district, especially in Sacramento.
