'Thoughts and Prayers' - Councilman Sergio Robles Skewered for Response to Elk Grove ICE Activity

According to posts across social media, there was recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement - ICE - activity in Elk Grove.

Before long, Elk Grove District 4 City Councilman Sergio Robles did what he thought would reassure residents about the heavy-handed ICE tactics. Unfortunately for Robles, he miscalculated.

In a message sent to Elk Grove News, the response was compared to the meaningless 'thoughts and prayers' platitudes offered by polticians after mass shootings.

Here is what the group elkgrove.activism.mutualaid said on Instagram:

We’ve been asking city council to prepare for this for over a year. You’ve done nothing. And now your message is for community members to keep each other safe? You know ICE carries g*ns and has executed civilians in the street just for filming them, which is a legally protected first amendment behavior.

You were there at the March community meeting where Elk Grove PD Chief Robert Davis told residents EGPD will do NOTHING if ICE breaks into our homes ***without a warrant*** and kidnaps residents, including children.

You were there when EGPD said they won’t come out to check alleged ICE agents’ badges and IDs (which they won’t show to civilians) and check their faces behind the masks to verify these are actual federal agents, not opportunistic human traffickers and r*pists.

Save us your meaningless comments. You do not stand with Elk Grove residents unless you DO something. “Concerned” statements aren’t it. YOU have power and you choose not to use it. You may as well say nothing. We all know where you really stand.

Below is the councilman's post.
