Pan Announces Endorsement in Congressional Bid After Weeks of Social Media Silence
Before Proposition 50 was approved, there was one declared Republican in the 6th District
After weeks of going dark on social media, California 6th Congressional District candidate Dr. Richard Pan made an endorsement yesterday. Pan is one of two declared Democratic candidates for the seat now occupied by Democrat Dr. Ami Bera, who will run in California's 3rd Congressional District.
Pan announced that Democratic Congresswoman Judy Chu (Calif. 28th) has received her endorsement. First elected in 2008, Chu is the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress.
Chu's endorsement statement (see below) highlighted the former State Senator's committment to public health and comes as Pan is now facing fellow Democrat and Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho. Since Ho's entrance into the race, the first-term District Attorney has garnered endorsements from several Sacramento-area elected officials, while Pan has not posted any campaign updates on his various social media platforms or website.
"Grateful to have the support of Congresswoman Judy Chu, someone I've long admired for her groundbreaking leadership and steadfast commitment to our AANHPI communities," Pan said in his Facebook post announcing the endorsement. "Her guidance and partnership have meant a great deal to me over the years."
Before Proposition 50 was approved, there was one declared Republican in the 6th District, Ray Riehle of Citrus Heights. On November 30, Riehle said in a social media post that he is now weighing his options for which district he will run in.
"This is the end of Thanksgiving Weekend and I am Thankful for a lifetime of blessings and the opportunity to continue my campaign," Riehle said on Facebook. "It will be a couple of more weeks before I am certain which district I'll be running for."
