Matsui Making the Rounds - Appears at Elk Grove Food Bank
If it wasn't for the SNAP crisis, would these politicians even know where the food banks are located?
With the federal government shutdown reaching record territory with each passing day, U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson is not conducting the people's business. What is a Representative to do with all this spare time?
Most congressional representatives are back in their districts, pressing the flesh. For many representatives, especially Democrats, that means appearing at local food banks, especially given President Trump's suspension of SNAP nutritional benefits.
Elk Grove's representative in Washington, D.C., Doris Matsui (CA - 7th District), has been making the rounds. In addition to appearing at Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen's food distribution on Tuesday, Ms. Matsui made an appearance at Elk Grove's food bank (see video below).
With the budget showdown at an impasse, no substantial revival of full snap benefits in the coming days, and the need for food bank services quickly escalating, while they are on leave, you can count on more appearances by members of Congress.
The question becomes, once the issue is resolved, will any of these Congressional representatives, or local elected officials for that matter, appear at food banks at times other than the Holidays?
