Current vote totals released this afternoon by the California Secretary of State show that Rep. Doris Matsui has widened her lead over challenger and fellow Democrat Mai Vang for California's 7th Congressional District.

Matsui currently has 97,765 votes (55.7%) to Vang's 77,894 votes (44.3%). In Sacramento County, Matsui's lead narrowed to 51.66% to Vang's 48.34%

While Matsui has maintained her wide lead from the first vote tallies released Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, she has not declared victory. Conversely, Vang has continued to express confidence that the gap will narrow as more votes are counted and has not conceded.

In a press release this afternoon, Vang noted the gap narrowed in the vote-rich Sacramento County portion of the three-county district. The press release said:

A batch of Sacramento County ballots reported today narrowed the margin between Mai Vang and Rep. Doris Matsui, with thousands of votes still left to count across California’s 7th Congressional District.

The Matsui campaign has not released a statement nor made any social media statement regarding the vote totals.
