Mai Vang Calls Out Doris Matsui’s Age on Social Media

There are a few unwritten rules in political advertising. Generally, you do not trash an opponent's minor children, and to a lesser extent, a spouse, unless there is just cause.

Another rule that is going away, especially for younger progressive Democratic candidates who are challenging older mainstream Democratic elected officials, is age. Such was the case for a social media post featuring Sacramento City Council member Mai Vang, who is challenging long-time Congresswoman Doris Matsui for California's 7th Congressional District.

In her 10-second appearance posted on the stocking_the_capitol Instagram page, among other things, Vang said, "I am running to unseat an 82-year-oldSee incumbent who takes corporate money." see video below

While Vang doesn't criticize Matsui's age per se, mentioning that she is 82 doesn't convey a positive message for most voters. This is especially true among Millennial and Gen Z voters, who are upset with the older Democratic establishment, which they feel is out of touch with their needs.
