Juvenile MAGA Motorist Hits Anti-ICE Student Protester, Flees Scene

Fremont, Neb. police have located a juvenile driver alleged to be involved in a hit-and-run collision that injured a student during a protest outside Fremont High School this week, authorities said Friday.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. as dozens of students staged a student-led walkout to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies, Fremont Public Schools and police said. The protest was not a school-sponsored event, but administrators were on site to monitor student safety, officials said.

The widely circulated video on social media and detailed by Nebraska Public Media, a red SUV displaying a Trump 2024 flag drove past the protesters multiple times before the driver appeared to accelerate into the group. One student stepped in front of the parked vehicle and was struck, landing on the hood and then to the ground as the SUV fled the scene. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Fremont police said they have since located the driver, identified as a juvenile, and are conducting a thorough investigation. Charges “will be determined at the completion of the investigation,” the department said in a statement.

The victim’s family has said the student is recovering at home with bumps and bruises and has questioned the circumstances surrounding the walkout. In a statement to local news outlets, the student’s mother issued a statement reminding staff of the importance of remaining nonpartisan and noting that she believes school officials should have prevented or better managed the demonstration.

Fremont Public Schools issued a statement reminding staff of the importance of remaining nonpartisan and noting that “the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” while acknowledging that schools cannot legally prevent students from assembling off campus.

The case remains under review by the Dodge County District Attorney, and police have not released additional details about possible charges.
