Is Prop. 50 pushing Conservative Rep. Kevin Kiley to Appear More Moderate?
If Proposition 50 is adopted, Kiley and other Republicans will have to decide which District they will seek reelection in.

Although voting on Proposition 50 does not close for another three weeks, with final results coming weeks later, given California's slow-paced ballot tabulation, polling suggests its chances of being adopted are good. With this in mind, there are five California Republicans who must be recalibrating their election prospect for next November's midterm election.
One of the five Republicans targeted by the California Assembly Democratic caucus for redistricting is Congressman Kevin Kiley, who represents California's 3rd Congressional District. Kiley, a reliable conservative Republican who has supported President Donald Trump's agenda, previously served in the California Assembly and was first elected to Congress in 2022.
If Proposition 50 is adopted, Kiley and other Republicans will have to decide which District they will seek reelection. For Kiley, the 3rd District will be a less reliable Republican seat, given that it would include portions of Sacramento County and eliminate the conservative Eastern Sierra area.
It was in this quick-evolving California political environment that Mr. Kiley appeared on this Sunday morning's CNN Inside Politics program. As seen in the video below, Kiley agreed there is no reason why Republican Speaker of the House Mike should not swear in the newest member, Arizona Democrat Congressmember-elect Adelita Grijalva.
Additionally, Kiley echoed his Democratic Sacramento area Congress members, Representatives Ami Bera and Doris Matsui, and said Speaker Johnson should reconvene Congress.
You can never tell with polticians if they are being sincere or not, and Mr. Kiley is no exception. Does Kiley believe, as he says, the constituents deserve immediate representation, or is he positioning himself to appear more moderate?
Undoubtedly, Mr. Kiley will continue to support most of the Trump agenda if it helps his reelection prospects. If the "Yes" on Proposition 50 is approved, being tied to Trump could become a liability in a more moderate and independent district, so don't be surprised if Kiley rolls out this interview to convince voters he is a moderate Republican, despite his actual stances.
