In a short time, Mai Vang's fundraising has reached triple digits in race for Congress
Small donors have fueled Vang's fundraising effort.
Even though Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang has been a declared candidate for a relatively short time, she has managed to reach a triple-digit threshold. Ms. Vang, a Democrat, is challenging longtime Congressmember and fellow Democrat Doris Matsui in the June Primary race for California's 7th Congressional District.
According to Vang's campaign disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission, she has raised $109,220 for the period ending September 30. Vang officially entered the race, challenging Ms. Matsui on September 1.
Of the money Vang has raised, all but $10,000 has come from individual donations. Much of the money has been funneled to the Vang campaign by Act Blue, a non-profit fundraising platform for Democratic candidates.
Of that $10,000, $5,000 each came from the advocacy groups Working Families PAC and National Union of Healthcare Workers. Vang has committed not to accept corporate donations.
Although Vang has surpassed the $100,000 threshold, Congresswoman Matsui has six times as much money and has a deeper well from which to draw corporate and special interest campaign funds.
