Elk Grove Gears Up for Star-Spangled Bash Marking Independence Day
Fireworks, drones, and a fair-style festival will light up Elk Grove Park on Friday, July 4
Fireworks, drones, and a fair-style festival will light up Elk Grove Park on Friday, July 4, as the city celebrates both America’s 249th birthday and its own quarter-century milestone. The free community event, “Elk Grove Salutes the Red, White & Blue,” is hosted by the City of Elk Grove and the Cosumnes Community Services District.
Gates open at 5 p.m. when more than 80 food and craft vendors begin serving crowds. A $10 parking fee applies to on-site parking (no in-and-out privileges after 3 p.m.); however, SacRT will operate complimentary shuttles from multiple locations around town throughout the evening.
Families can deck out bicycles, tricycles and strollers for the popular “Let Freedom Ride” Bike Parade at 6 p.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. Headlining the main stage at 7:30 p.m. is “Rock with You—A Michael Jackson Experience,” a high-energy tribute featuring the late pop icon’s greatest hits.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., the night sky will be filled with a coordinated Drone Show and Fireworks Spectacular, capping the five-hour celebration.
Alcohol, personal fireworks, and pets, other than service animals, are prohibited inside the park. Visitors should also bring blankets or low-back chairs; pop-up tents must come down by dusk to preserve sight lines for the show.
Road Closures and Detours
Elk Grove Police warn drivers to expect two separate traffic closures, detours, and delays this Friday:
- Run 4 Hunger (7 – 11 a.m.) – Streets near the District56 civic complex will close for the morning charity run. Detours will guide motorists around Laguna Springs Dr., Civic Center Dr. and portions of Big Horn Blvd.
- Fireworks Zone (5 – 11 p.m.) – Streets surrounding Elk Grove Park, including portions of Elk Grove-Florin Rd. and Bond Rd., will be restricted or closed outright. Drivers are urged to follow posted signs or consult the city’s online traffic advisory for detailed maps.
