Wilton Rancheria Flag to be flown at Elk Grove City Hall

During their next meeting on July 23, the Elk Grove City Council is will approve an amendment to its flag policy to include the Wilton Rancheria Tribal Flag among those approved to be flown on City-owned property. 

This proposed change comes at the request of the Wilton Rancheria Tribe, the only federally recognized tribe in Sacramento County. The city's Diversity and Inclusion Commission reviewed the proposed amendment for the Tribal Flag on July 15, 2025.

The city's flag policy, initially adopted in September 2019, currently permits the display of the National Flag of the United States, the California State Flag, the official City of Elk Grove Flag, and Prisoner of War and Military Flags. In May 2022, the policy was amended to include the Progress Pride Flag, commemorating Pride Month. 

The Wilton Rancheria Tribal Flag will fly year-round at City Hall. The estimated cost for the new flagpole and installation is $9,675.63, with staff anticipating the total cost to remain under $10,000. 

Staff recommends that the installation and a flag-raising ceremony be held in November, which is Native American Heritage Month
