Sacramento man convicted of sexually assaulting victim from age 7
The convicted knew the victim’s family and began sexually assaulting her when she was 7 years old.
A jury convicted a 68-year-old man of multiple sexual assault charges on Sept. 4, 2025, after he repeatedly abused a victim from the age of 7 until she was 13.
Jagdish Chand was found guilty of 16 felony counts, including five counts of rape by force, seven counts of oral copulation by force, and two counts each of sexual penetration with a foreign object and lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14.
According to the district attorney’s office, Chand knew the victim’s family and began sexually assaulting her when she was 7 years old. The abuse escalated when the victim turned 13, at which point Chand began to forcibly rape her regularly.
Prosecutors said Chand threatened to harm the victim and a family member if she did not comply. He also forced her to orally copulate him and used sex toys on her.
Chand faces a maximum sentence of 118 years in state prison. Under California law, he would become eligible for release at an elder parole hearing after serving 20 years. With credits for time already served, he could be eligible for parole in approximately 17 ½ years.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 3, 2025, before Judge Michael Sweet in Department 20 of the Sacramento County Superior Court.
