Sacramento County Coroner Seeks Public's Help Identifying Man Who Died After Medical Emergency at Homeless Shelter

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office is asking for the public's help identifying a man who died after suffering a medical emergency at a Sacramento homeless shelter earlier this year.

According to the Coroner's Office, the unidentified man experienced a witnessed cardiac arrest on Feb. 4, 2026, at a homeless shelter on Bannon Street in Sacramento. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators said fingerprints taken from the man did not produce a positive identification through available databases.

Shelter personnel told investigators the man identified himself as Walter Hernandez Quinonez and provided a date of birth of Aug. 26, 1968. Authorities have not been able to verify that information.

The man is believed to have been Hispanic and between 50 and 60 years old. He stood approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed about 151 pounds and had shoulder-length black hair with gray, brown eyes and natural, well-preserved teeth. Investigators said he had no tattoos or other distinguishing marks or scars.

The Coroner's Office also released a facial reconstruction image created by combining a traditional forensic sketch with postmortem photographs using artificial intelligence technology to produce what officials described as the most accurate likeness possible.

Anyone who recognizes the man or has information about his identity is asked to contact the Sacramento County Coroner's Office at 916-874-9320 or by email at DeputyCoroner@saccounty.gov.

The case is identified as Sacramento County Coroner Case No. 26-00572.
