Rep. Doris Matsui Warns of Doubled Healthcare Premiums
In the last couple of weeks, Rep. Doris Matsui has become more visible on social media but has not conducted any town hall or constituent meetings.

Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif., joined with Covered California and local community leaders Friday to sound the alarm on the impending expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, warning that millions of Americans could see their monthly premiums double.
Speaking at a press conference at Covered California Headquarters, Matsui called out Republicans for failing to prevent the potential spike in healthcare costs.
"Sacramento is a tight-knit community. We stand together. We support each other. And we never back down when it comes to protecting our neighbors," Matsui said in a statement posted to her social media account.
The enhanced premium tax credits, first enacted under the American Rescue Plan, have helped lower monthly premiums and contributed to a record 24.3 million individuals enrolling in ACA coverage in 2025. Without Congressional action, the credits will expire, putting those coverage gains at risk.
Matsuie claimed that without an extension, a family of four in Sacramento and Elk Grove could face thousands of dollars in higher annual costs, making healthcare unaffordable for many. More than 27,000 people in California's 7th Congressional District, which includes all of Elk Grove, rely on these credits.
"We're not talking about 10 or 20 percent increases in premiums," she said. "Companies are finalizing rates right now, and families are staring down the possibility of their monthly premiums doubling at least." (see entire social media video below).
Matsui was joined by Jessica Altman, executive director of Covered California, Rachel Rios, executive director of La Familia Counseling Center, Jessie Mabry from Opening Doors, Frank Louie from the Stockton Boulevard Partnership, and Matt Cervantes from The Center at Sierra Health Foundation.
Fellow Democrats have criticized Matsui for not speaking out more forcefully against the Trump administration's policies. The discontent is evident in the candidacy of Democratic Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang, who is challenging Matsui in the June 226 primary.
Vang is advocating for progressive policies and a more assertive response to the president's policies. Since Vang's candidacy was announced, Matsui has become more visible on social media but has not conducted any town hall or constituent meetings.
