With the filing deadline to run for the Elk Grove City Council in the November general election about one month away, a candidate has filed papers to challenge an incumbent council member.

According to information posted by the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, Peggy Parks has filed a California Form 501, Candidate Intention Statement. Ms. Parks is challenging District 4 representative Sergio Robles.

Parks has established a website where she describes herself as:

"a community-minded leader, mentor, widow, mother and grandmother. She is running for Elk Grove City Council District 4 with a focus on accessibility, common sense and service. Deeply involved in her local community and church, she provides mentorship for young people and families throughout Elk Grove.
Peggy's own family reflects the diversity at the heart of Elk Grove: blended, multicultural and rooted in love. As a mother she understands that Elk Grove's strength comes from people of different backgrounds working together to build a safe and welcoming community. She believes every resident deserves to feel seen, heard and represented.
Peggy is running to bring a friendly, practical and engaged voice to the City Council. One that listens, engages and just shows up! She will and has already worked hard for the neighborhoods, families and future of Elk Grove."

On her campaign website, Parks lists public safety, quality of life, traffic relief, housing affordability, and homelessness as priorities.

Parks is the first candidate to challenge Robles for the District 4 seat. Robles was first elected to the City Council in 2022 after serving for three years on the Elk Grove Planning Commission.
