Matsui Secures Sacramento City Council Endorsements as Vang Challenge Intensifies in CA-07 Race
Today, the Matsui campaign announced several endorsements that are a not-so-subtle jab at Vang.
Since winning a special election over 20 years ago, Rep. Doris Matsui has been easily reelected to the U.S. House of Representatives as one of the Sacramento region's representatives. This year, it has been a different story.
Faced with a viable challenger from fellow Democrat Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang, Ms. Matsui has had to campaign earlier than ever before and more vigorously.
As an establishment Democrat and incumbent, Matsui has leveraged her position to secure endorsements from many establishment figures. Today, the Matsui campaign announced several endorsements that are a not-so-subtle jab at Vang.
Among the endorsements announced today were several of Vang's colleagues on the Sacramento City Council. Those endorsements are from Mayor Kevin McCarty, and Councilmembers Lisa Kaplan (District 1), Roger Dickinson (District 2), Phil Pluckebaum (District 4), Eric Guerra (District 6), and Rick Jennings (District 7).
As of today's announcement, the only colleagues who did not endorse Matsui are Councilmember Karina Talamantes (District 3), and Caity Maple (District 5).
A news conference for the mass endorsement was held this morning in Sacramento. The video from that announcement conference is below.
