Good News For Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and Her Four Councilmen!

As we advance into 2026, there are several noteworthy events on the horizon for Elk Grove, not the least of which is just over three months away for Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and three, or possibly four, of her city councilmen.

That event is the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce's annual regional "lobbying" trip to Washington, D.C., known as the Cap to Cap program. Presented as a lobbying trip to solicit funds from the federal government, as more than four elected officials have told Elk Grove News, it is a taxpayer-funded party, golfing, and other fun-time activities for Elk Grove elected and public officials.

Put another way, it is a classic junket.

Even though the program is meant to bring federal funds back to Elk Grove (good luck with that during the current administration!) and other Sacramento-area government agencies, to the best of our knowledge, rarely has there been a detailed report linking the "lobbying" efforts of our executive and elected officials to quantifiable results benefiting Elk Grove. Furthermore, if these funds were secured, was it because of their lobbying efforts or because of one of the city's paid lobbyists?

This brings us to the reports Elk Grove taxpayers receive from our elected officials on their "efforts." As seen in the video below, following the 2023 trip, District 2 City Councilman Rod Brewer famously said he was working on regulatory relief.

In political speak, regulatory relief means loosening regulations, typically those that protect consumers and environmental standards. We'll look into this in another post, but who was Mr. Brewer advocating for - constituents or corporate big shots and their hedge fund managers?

Then there is District 4 Councilman Sergio Robles. In the days before his infamous DUI arrests by Elk Grove Police, Mr. Robles said he had "super fun" on his taxpayer-funded joy trip.

At least he was honest about what the trip meant to him (see image of Mr. Robles in the array below).

Here is a suggestion for the Elk Grove City Manager, Jason Behrmann. Taxpayers do not need your gibberish social calendar updates during your city council meeting's administrative report.

Why not include updates on the city's efforts to bring home federal funds for projects like the long-stalled commuter rail station, which is supposed to open later this year?

As for Mayor Singh-Allen and her City Councilman, have fun on your next trip to Washington, D.C., but taxpayers should know - can't a one- or two-person delegation be sufficient?

Unless you explicitly link your entourage's efforts to securing federal funds, we know you and your entourage go to Washington, D.C., to party on the taxpayers' backs.
