Elk Grove to Hold “ICE OUT FOR GOOD” Vigil Amid National Protests Over ICE Agent Killing
Indivisible Elk Grove – Laguna is hosting the “ICE OUT FOR GOOD” demonstration
Community members are planning a candlelight vigil on Sunday in Elk Grove as part of a nationwide series of protests responding to the deadly shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis earlier this week.
Indivisible Elk Grove – Laguna is hosting the “ICE OUT FOR GOOD” demonstration and vigil on Jan. 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Bruceville Road and Laguna Boulevard. Organizers said the peaceful, nonviolent event will honor Good’s life and highlight what they describe as a pattern of violence and abuse by federal immigration enforcement. Attendees are encouraged to bring candles and signs calling for accountability.
Good, 37, was fatally shot by an ICE officer in south Minneapolis on Jan. 7 during a federal enforcement operation that has drawn widespread criticism and sparked protests in Minneapolis and other cities across the country. Family members and neighbors have mourned Good as a compassionate mother and poet, while local officials have questioned the circumstances of the shooting.
The incident in Minneapolis has prompted demonstrations not only in Minnesota but also in cities including New York, Seattle, Detroit and Washington, D.C., as activists call for changes to immigration enforcement and greater oversight of federal agents.
“ICE OUT FOR GOOD” is part of a coordinated Weekend of Action aimed at amplifying concerns about federal immigration practices and honoring those affected by enforcement actions, organizers said. The Elk Grove event is open to all community members who wish to participate.
