The City of Elk Grove, in partnership with the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT), is hosting a series of public meetings to gather feedback on four proposed transit alternatives meant to connect the city with the broader Sacramento region.

The plans explore extending either light rail or bus rapid transit service into the city, with a focus on improving mobility. Four options for public consideration will be presented, all of which would extend high-frequency transit service from the current Blue Line terminus at Cosumnes River College.

Two alternatives focus on a full light rail extension to Kammerer Road, with one option operating a segment in mixed traffic and the other featuring a new rapid bus service to supplement the light rail. The remaining alternatives propose a bus rapid transit (BRT) line, which would use dedicated busways or lanes to offer faster service.

The proposed transit lines would run along key corridors, including Bruceville Road and Big Horn Boulevard, to reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions while increasing accessibility for all residents.

Public feedback is being sought on the proposed design concepts, station locations, and the overall cost-benefit of each alternative.

An in-person Community Open House is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at District56 in the Sheldon Room, located at 8230 Civic Center Drive. A virtual community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.
