ELK GROVE, Calif. — The Elk Grove Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint Friday evening at an undisclosed location within the city limits as part of an effort to reduce impaired driving.

The checkpoint is scheduled to operate from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, June 26.

Police said officers will screen drivers for signs of impairment and verify that motorists are properly licensed. Officers also will distribute educational materials about the dangers of driving under the influence.

The checkpoint is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, according to the department.

The department is encouraging residents to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 or the Elk Grove Police Department's emergency line at (916) 714-5111 if they observe dangerous driving behavior.
