Elk Grove Hosting Community Meetings on Finalist Sites for Permanent Homeless Shelter

The City of Elk Grove will host a series of community information sessions later this month to gather public input on finalist locations for a permanent homeless shelter, city officials announced.

The meetings mark the next phase in Elk Grove’s effort to transition from its year-round, temporary shelter at 9499 East Stockton Boulevard to a permanent facility that provides more stable and comprehensive services for residents experiencing homelessness.

After several months of site searches and evaluations, the city has narrowed the field to no more than four potential locations. Officials said the finalist sites will be publicly released on Wednesday, Jan. 7, before being discussed with residents and ultimately presented to the City Council for final consideration.

City staff will host four identical meetings to explain the proposed sites, outline shelter operations and answer questions about how the project could support broader community needs. Residents may attend any session.

The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 21, and Tuesday, Jan. 27, with sessions from 3 to 4:40 p.m. and again from 6 to 7:40 p.m. All meetings will be held at District56, 8230 Civic Center Drive.

Officials said community feedback gathered during the sessions will help inform the City Council’s decision on a permanent shelter location.

More information about the project, including design details, is available at elkgrove.gov/futureshelter. Residents are encouraged to register in advance to attend a meeting.
