Elk Grove High School Teacher Arrested on Sex Crime Charges Involving Former Student

A Laguna Creek High School teacher has been arrested and charged with multiple sex-related offenses involving a former student who was a minor at the time, Elk Grove police announced Wednesday.

David Collins, 38, was taken into custody at his Sacramento home after detectives served a search warrant and confirmed the allegations, police said. Collins (pictured below) is being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of oral copulation with a person under 18 and penetration by a foreign object of a victim under 18, in violation of California Penal Code sections 287(b)(1) and 289(h).

Investigators said the crimes occurred between 2015 and 2018 while Collins was employed at Laguna Creek High School and the victim was a student there. The investigation began after former students reported the allegations to Elk Grove Unified School District officials, who then notified police and placed Collins on administrative leave.

Police are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Elk Grove Police Department Investigations Bureau at (916) 478-8112.
