Elk Grove Filipino-American Voters Receive Steyer's Campaign Bilingual Mailer
The Tagalog wording on the cover and the inside mirrors the English message and addresses one of the campaign's hot topics - affordability
With less than two weeks before voting ends in the June 2 California primary, gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer has sent a targeted mailer for bilingual voters. In this case, Filipino-American voters.
An Elk Grove News reader, a descendant of Filipino ancestry, shared a mailer they received yesterday from the Steyer campaign. The mailer uses a mix of English and Tagalog, the most common Filipino dialect.
The cover features an image that appears to depict a mother and her young child. The Tagalog wording on the cover and the inside mirrors the English message and addresses one of the campaign's hot topics - affordability.
Interestingly, Steyer included former gubernatorial candidate Betty Yee, who is still on the ballot, as an endorsement. Steyer also included an image of himself accompanied by what appears to be a group of Chinese American voters behind a sign written in Chinese language symbols,
According to recent polling information released by the California Democratic Party, Steyer is in third place behind Republican Steve Hilton and Xavier Becerra. The data shows the three candidates at 21, 22, and 15 percent, respectively.
Current reports from Political Data Inc. show that statewide, only seven percent of ballots have been returned. Primary elections typically draw lower turnout than the general election, so candidates try to squeeze every possible vote from every identifiable pool of voters.
