Last night Rep. Doris Matsui and Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang had what might be their only debate as they both compete for California's 7th Congressional District in the November 2026 mid-term election.

Vang finished in first place ahead of incumbent Matsui in the June primary. Under California's open primary, the top two finishers in a primary advance to the general election. Matsui and Vang are both Democrats.

The debate was held in Sacramento and was organized by 22 neighborhood associations and moderated by Paula Lee of the Sacramento League of Women Voters.

The Access Sacramento live stream was plagued by technical difficulties, so Ms. Matsui's opening statement is not included in the video posted below. Also, a significant portion of Ms. Vang's opening statement was not recorded.
