Although it was not a campaign event per se, Congressmember Doris Matsui (D- Calif.) and Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang appeared at the Sacramento 'No King' protest. Vang is challenging Matsui for California's 7th Congressional District in the June 2026 California Primary and is the biggest threat to the longtime representative since taking office in 2005.
The event, which drew thousands, was held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. Although the event was organized independent of the Democratic Party, many elected Democratic officials spoke at events across the nation.
As one of two Congress members representing Sacramento in the U.S. House of Representatives, Ms, Matsui was a featured speaker. Vang, one of nine members of the Sacramento City Council worked the audience.
In the video below is a portion of Matsui's speech and some of the pictures from Ms. Vang's social media account interacting with protest participants.
