Information session on controversial Elk Grove rural area housing development being held this week
The Summer Villas project is seeking approval for an active adult and senior housing development on 116 acres

Representatives of a developer pursuing a controversial project that seeks to build hundreds of high-density single-family dwellings in Elk Grove will hold an information session this week.
The Summer Villas project is seeking approval for an active adult and senior housing development on 116 acres on the southeast corner of Waterman and Sheldon roads that includes 406 single family dwellings and 80 assisted living units. The parcel is located within the city's designated rural area (see the map above).
Leading opposition to the project is the Greater Sheldon Road Estates Homeowner Association (GRESHA). A longstanding rural advocacy group in Elk Grove, GRESHA has long fought for the preservation of the city's vast rural area.
Although the invitation (see below) was shared with GRESHA members, news of the proposed development has spread over the last several days and generated extensive negative social media controversy. An Elk Grove City Hall official who asked not to be identified said they expect up to 500 people to attend the session.
The information session will be held at the proposed site this Thursday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. Entrance to the session is at 9530 Sheldon Road.
It is not known where the suggested parking is, and no details were provided regarding seating.
