As Part of a 'People-Powered' Congressional Campaign, Mai Vang kicks off Wet Signature Gathering
Vang said that given her campaign's philosophy, she chose to collect signatures
Sacramento City Councilmember and Congressional candidate Mai Vang posted a social media video announcing her signature-gathering campaign to be placed on the June 2026 California primary ballot. Ms. Vang is challenging fellow Democrat Rep. Doris Matsui for California's 7th Congressional District, which includes all of Elk Grove.
In her video, Vang said her campaign could pay the approximately $1,700 fee rather than gather 1,714 registered voter signatures. Vang said that given her campaign's philosophy, she chose to collect signatures.
"Because this is a people-powered campaign, we chose option two (signature gathering)," she said. "That means we are gonna be collecting wet signatures, and we need your help."
Vang is financing her campaign with small individual donations, while Matsui, who has served in Congress since 2005, relies on large corporate and political action committee donations. Matsui has not made any high-profile small donor appeals.
Year-end Congressional campaign finance reports with the Federal Election Commission are due by January 31.
