As Doris Matsui's Bob Dole-like Hatchet Man, Mayor Singh-Allen Bashes Mai Vang
As the Matsui-Vang battle escalates, expect Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen to keep sharpening her hatchet on her backyard grinding wheel.
For those who were around 50 years ago to vote in the 1976 presidential election, one person who gained nationwide attention was Vice Presidential candidate Bob Dole. When Dole was selected as the Vice President candidate, he had one primary role in President Gerald R. Ford's first and only presidential campaign: to act as the ticket's attack dog and hatchet man.
Long before he became famous for pitching Viagra, Dole was exactly the hatchetman Ford needed to keep his presidential hands clean when that sort of civility was common. While Dole's surrogacy did not serve the Ford-Dole ticket particularly well, it served Dole well as he went on to become the Senate Majority leader and the 1996 Republican Presidential nominee.
One way people seeking to move up the elected political food chain can make their bones, even in lower-level campaigns, is by serving as aggressive surrogates. To be successful, the surrogate needs to be abrasive and behave as a sociopathic hatchet person.
This job function is particularly well-suited for Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, as evidenced by a social media post she made after attending the California Democratic Party convention in San Francisco.
In her post, Ms. Singh-Allen, who was a Republican before it became more beneficial for her to become a Democrat as Elk Grove's demographics changed, noted, without naming her, that Mai Vang is a socialist. The use of the term socialist is the favorite term Republicans, like President Donald Trump, like to use condescendingly, while establishment Democrats, like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, use the term Socialist Democrat as a pejorative.
This is what Singh-Allen said on social media:
It was an honor to attend the CA Democratic Convention as a Delegate, where I was proud to support our esteemed congresswoman and the most impactful congressional leader in Congress - Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui. Her dedication to delivering results for her district is truly commendable. Following re-districting, Congresswoman Matsui assumed responsibility for Elk Grove and promptly engaged with our team and other stakeholders to identify and address our needs. Experience is a valuable asset. Notably, Congressional District 7 is a reliably Democratic seat. However, it is essential to acknowledge that it is not a Democratic Socialist seat.
For Singh-Allen, this dirty work could pay off for her if Matsui is reelected and leaves office after the next few terms. Singh-Allen could be well-positioned to earn Matsui's endorsement when she makes her expected run for Congress, for being Matsui's hatchet-wielding, ball-busting surrogate.
As the campaign progresses, there is a good chance that Matsui and Vang both advance to the November election. Should that happen, expect Singh-Allen to keep sharpening her hatchet on her backyard grinding wheel.
Singh-Allen's fellow Republican Bob Dole would be proud.
